Empty nest syndrome is a feeling of grief and loneliness parents may feel when their children leave home for the first time. (Wiki)

This piece was created to represent a gap in our lives and the loneliness parents may feel when their children leave home for the first time. They are a constant presence in our lives while being nurtured and then they want to spread their wings, and that requires some mind-set adjustment, more for the parent than for the child. There is a sense that the intangible characteristics of self-confidence and responsibility have been passed on to the next generation.

The work is not about destroying the memories or burning bridges, it is more about bridging the gap, not falling into the gap. The transcendence in the state and form of the materials represents a new start, new opportunities, a new way of seeing things. The wire structure is a physical representation of the nest, the loose wires represent the paths we can take in crossing the boundary from the past to the future, and represent the child that has spread its wings and flown from the nest.
